Don played 3 Festival shows over the weekend and he’s got 4 more Manitoba shows this week. Wednesday night at the Kings Head Pub, Thursday Night at the Pyramid, Friday at an out of town conference and Saturday back the the Festival Red River Tent. Check the shows page for info.

Indian City

Don has joined the group ‘Indian City’ which is Vince Fontaine’s (Eagle and Hawk) new band. Don’t worry Don will still be doing plenty on his own. Indian City will be launching their CD at the Festival Du Voyageur on Saturday Feb. 18th.

What’s going on with Oscar?

It’s been a while since I’ve posted so I figured I’d catch you up on what’s going on with the new Amero family.

Our son, Oscar Peter Amero was born on November 30th at 6:51 am weighing 7lbs 6 oz. It was quite a traumatic entrance into the world. Here’s the story…

We had planned a home birth and unfortunately due to meconium (Look it up on google if you don’t know what that is) in the womb (Which became evident after Pam’s water broke), we had to rush to the hospital to have this baby. When he was born he had some meconium in his lungs and wasn’t breathing on his own, so he was brought to the NIC-U. Pam and I made a plan that if he had to be taken away I would go with him. So, there we were, Oscar and I in the NIC-U, him with the oxygen being pumped to his lungs. It was the worst feeling seeing my little guy struggle and not be able to hold and comfort him. After spending about 20 minutes with Oscar I went to check on Pam, I had thought Pam was doing fine (Her mom and sisters were in the room with her, so she wasn’t alone) but it turned out that she had been losing a lot of blood. Her mom and sisters were outside hugging, crying and praying together and I immediatley start to worry. Then they said “go see Pam now” and I began thinking the worst! When I get to her room, I see that she’s lost a lot of blood and there are nurses and doctors running all around the room, my heart sank. One of the midwives stopped me and said “Maybe it’s best you don’t go in right now, she’s doing ok, but she’s lost a lot of blood and will need to go for surgery”. I’m losing my mind, what should be a big celebration is now turing out to be one of the worst days of my life, my wife is bleeding out, my boy can’t breathe… WHAT’S GOING ON!?

Needless to say I broke down… a few times, I truly thought I was losing them both. (My mind tends to go tot he worst possible scenario.) I went back in to be with Oscar, he looked so precious… and helpless there with the little tubes and IV’s keeping him alive. After what seemed to be an eternity I was told that Pam is now being wheeled to surgery and that I could see her on the way there. She was exausted and very weak. I got to see her, give her a kiss and tell her I love her and that our little guy is doing good (We didn’t have a name for him yet). I was told it would be a few hours before she’d be up and able to be seen again, so I went to sit with Oscar. Turns out he was doing better and breathing on his own. He was moved to another part of the ICU where I could now hold him. What a moment for me, seeing my boy so small and cute and perfect… broke down again… words cannot express.

Pam’s surgery went well and she was recovering. In a few hours she was able to come back to the room and for the first time since he was born we were all together, it was about 6pm. It took a few hours before we named him… actually we named him the next day after we got to know him a bit. He’s so an Oscar!

Oh, I almost forgot, Pam also needed two blood transfusions in this whole ordeal as well. Thus making me even more of an advocate for giving blood. (I just gave last week). It was a few days of recovery in the hospital and then finally after about 4 days there we went home.

So we’ve been home and getting to know Oscar. He’s such a good little boy, despite the fact that I am starting to believe he is playing a little game on us because every time we have his diaper off he pees all over the place, but darn it, even that’s pretty cute!

It’s Christmastime

Well it’s that time of year again. Christmas is my absolute favorite time of year. I remember being a kid and having this intense anticipation waiting for Santa to come. I spent the first 10 years of my life not sleeping at all on Christmas Eve. I would pace back and forth from my bed to my window; looking up at the night sky trying to get a glimpse of him on his sleigh… Now, my wife and I just had our first baby (Oscar Peter Amero) and I am so excited to do the Christmas thing with my family. Everything from Santa to the true meaning of the season, to remember and celebrate the arrival of Jesus Christ. Oscar is only 5 days old right now, so this year we may just limit it to decorating together and saying a few prayers of thanks!

If you’re looking to celebrate this time of year with me, I am hosting my annual ‘Amero Little Christmas’ show at the Ellice Theatre on Friday December 16th. I’ll also be releasing my first Christmas EP titled – Christmastime, so you’ll have some new music to spin this holiday season too!

This years show is packed with new songs, fun surprises and special guests (Jaylene Johnson, James Struthers, Kimberley Jane and more). This is a family friendly show, so feel free to bring the little ones along! I for sure will be bringing mine.
